Coooooool man, always nice to hear threats from a bi-polar boss (who I once heard say that he doesn't really care about my "late to work" habits). Seriously man, I must have punctualiphobia or something because I NEVER show up to work on time. I know, I know...one of the most important traits to hone is punctuality, it can never be a bad thing (exempting late night parties and such). Punctualiphobia doesn't exist but I think it should be looked at as a label for those who fear being on time, like chronomentrophobia for those who fear clocks (suffering from the anxiety of time passing). But I have thought about it, and I have come to the conclusion that I will succumb to this regulation and make it a point to start showing up to work on time. I can't be fired at this point in time, I still have to fund an apartment, phone bills, trips to Boston, fun*, food, gas, and last but not least those sneaky little taxes (I think this applies to a large portion of the general public). Aside from all this work-related talk, let's dive into some new bands that I came across today. The fresh sounds of Beats Antique and Mr. Scruff. Beats Antique is "an oakland based group featuring ZOE JAKES, DAVID SATORI, AND SIDECAR TOMMY, which has stumbled down the rabbit hole and emerged anew on the other side. BEATS ANTIQUE forges a curious alliance between middle eastern traditions and potent west coast circus, underground hip hop, breakbeat brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep." This is a trio focused on purifying musical entertainment, and their collective passions mash to develop organic sounds for every listener... definitely give these guys a listen, it will take you on a ride. Transitioning over to a solo act of sheer brilliance, Mr. Scruff is a crowd pleaser at heart. Known to play sets lasting more than 6 hours, this British DJ with scruffy hair and eclectic views is reshaping the art of remixing. A blend of some acid-jazz with electro-lounge, the Sammy Davis Jr. vs. Thievery Corporation feel is making people move around the globe. Spread the love and embrace dancing everyone, it's actually quite therapeutic believe it or not. We gather to form expressive crowds at concerts and festivals, and these expressive crowds allow us to enter a realm of life where almost nothing but good spirits and feelings are acknowledged, leave your insecurities at the door folks. Lastly, today I read that the unemployment rate took a surprising dip during the month of October (10.2% to 10%- the first drop in 2 years), although it may be too early to say, we may be heading in the right direction for economic prosper and stability. Read into it, at first it may seem like private sectors and companies will be releasing more employees but that is only going to be for tax purposes, look for a healthy/slow decline in unemployment in 2010.
*Fun has it's different meanings *If you like the music I have posted, head up north to Calgary, Canada for the Snowblower Festival from January 7th-30th, not only will BA and Mr. Scruff be there, but so will Pretty Lights, whom I will reserve a proper introduction for. http://www.hprodeo.ca/2010/snowblower http://www.mrscruff.com/showscreen.php?site_id=9&screentype=site&screenid=9 http://beatsantique.com/
