Pablo, is that you?

Like father, like son? I like to fancy that one of Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso's lost seminal discharges may have found it's way into Pilar Bardem's birthing orifice... except this is almost entirely impossible because it is said that Carlos Encinas is the paternal side of Javier Bardem's creator team.  Regardless, the apparent physical similarities are quite shocking... and the fact that they ar...

This Sunday/Monday in Manhattan, I...

... got to see my Baby (and we are going to be heading to Nashville in 2 weeks), met her papa (Mr. Favati, and though I was quite intimidated by the man I actually managed to handle myself pretty well and we ended up conversing about simple things because most of his knowledge is over my head... but he is a cool guys to be around, a warm/welcoming aura), consequentially stayed at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, ran 9 blocks in 3 1/2 minutes on my way to giving salutations to Maritz and Natalie at ...

Vitamins, veitamines, vital-minerals, vitamines?

Posted by Colin McDowell on Friday, January 14, 2011, In : Thinking Out Loud

The word vitamin is a portmanteau (a combination of two words) of the Greek word "vita" and the chemical group "amine".  Cool fizzact for the dizzay.

"Rastus"

Posted by Colin McDowell on Sunday, January 2, 2011, In : Thinking Out Loud

Ol' man Rastus, where's that tasty Cream of Wheat you keep talkin' bout?

Believe it or not, this guys name is not even Rastus, it's Frank L. White... a Chicago chef who was said to have been paid $5 to pose in this photograph.  Ever since then, they have kept his face as the brand logo with only slight modifications that were made to his appearance.  However, don't be so quick to yell "Rastus" in public places... the word is actually considered to be a derogatory/discriminatory term associated...

November Chill(s)

Posted by Colin McDowell on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, In : Thinking Out Loud
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.  Luck runs out.  Preparation requires organization.  Opportunities can be seized or passed on.  I failed to recognize that when all of these truisms are incorporated into your daily life they can help you be the person you want to be.

I was presented with the opportunity to give my favorite artist,
Flying Lotus, a gift of my appreciation for his musical production abilities.  I failed to follow through with this plan, even after I had been ranting ...

Resurgence

Posted by Colin McDowell on Saturday, June 19, 2010, In : Thinking Out Loud
Since this blog solely serves the purpose of being an electronic collector of my thoughts and experiences, I have no-one to apologize to for the 3-4 month hiatus I have taken from writing.  During this 3-4 month period time, I have done a lot of self discovery, traveling, schooling, music making, networking, relationship building/destroying, and recovering.  Though hiatus' are normally a deterrent for continuous production, I believe that I received more benefits than injuries from this "brie...

HELP! THERE ARE CHILDREN IN THE FLIGHT TOWER!

Posted by Colin McDowell on Thursday, March 4, 2010, In : Thinking Out Loud

Yadadadadadadadada.  Nonsensical people love to set an example of/critically destroy other people even in the milder situations in life.  Now call me careless, but the huge deal that was made about the kids that were let into a JFK flight tower one day after another is a form of media murder.  I was able to catch a brief video of the occupants of the flight tower during the time and it appeared, to me at least, that there were a couple of other employees in the flight tower at the time, incl...

Listenability, how would you define it?

Posted by Colin McDowell on Monday, February 22, 2010, In : Thinking Out Loud
As a hip-hop song writer and vocal operationalist, I demand that I know how my words affect the ears... simple as that.

But the difficulty of assessing how your voice/word play/word choice/rhythm affects the ears of other human beings is almost cynically detrimental to one's continuance of pursuing a dream or passion in singing/song-writing.  In my case, the statement made in the previous sentence does not hold entirely true.  I am an excellent self-critic and generally know what sounds pleasu...

12 Hour Work Day

Posted by Colin McDowell on Sunday, January 17, 2010, In : Thinking Out Loud
So I elected to work a double today (11 am to 11 pm)... wise or thoughtless? More money, less music, more work, less fun.  Opportunity cost?  Nevermind.

Back from the Break

Posted by Colin McDowell on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, In : Thinking Out Loud
Pardon the absence, took a brief break to sort out some mental issues while providing southern hospitality for numerous guests.  It was a short-lived but fun break, so I am fairly pleased (had 3 friends from Singapore in town, my girlfriend rode a bus to come see me last weekend, working off some of my debt, assembling my near-future, spent quality time with the family... who wouldn't be pleased?).  But now I am back to use this blog as my outlet, yissss.

OK so after 4 months of reading (com...

Lets Try Again

Posted by Colin McDowell on Sunday, December 20, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud
So last night I arrived at the bus stop at around 11:30 knowing that the bus would be a tad bit late due to the inclement weather... I didn't know it would be 4 hours late though.  I made the decision to head back home instead of waiting in a room full of people for 4 hours after telling the lady working at the front desk to give me a ring when the bus arrived (she said OK).  So I gave her my number and left thinking that I was going to get a phone call.  I napped for a bit and woke up to my ...

Off to Manhattan... Into a Blizzard

Posted by Colin McDowell on Sunday, December 20, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud
At midnight I will embark on a cold, dark, journey along the eastern coast of the United States to my destination, New York City.  I will face black ice, freezing temperatures (reaching 10 degrees C), and windy weather.  This trip will be longer than the usual 6 hours but I will make it there nonetheless.  Wish me luck, I'll bring back a weather report.

Are You Not Entertained?

Posted by Colin McDowell on Thursday, December 17, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud

"They say he's a radical, he don't fit the game
A heart full of glory and a fist of pain
A couple of battle scars but shit's the same
Are you not entertained?"

-Common (Gladiator)

Recently, I have adopted a slight zen-Buddhist perspective towards violence, physical extremism, revenge, and intolerance... unfortunately/fortunately, I experienced the first 2 tests of my dedication to passive mind control today.  First test: I was told to pick my brother up from school at 12:30... I arrived, waited t...

What an Insane Week

Posted by Colin McDowell on Sunday, December 13, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud
Recap:

Wednesday (Dec. 9th)- Had a yoga class exam in the morning which consisted of exam review being due and tests waiting to be taken.  At the end of the exam she told us she had exploited her psychological side and that the real exam was coming in for the test being mentally prepared... interesting.  Caught a flight right after it finished, landed in Boston at 3:30.  Walked around looking for Crista and making sure I was in the right place for approximately 35 minutes.  Found Crista, took ...

"You don't understand, I can't do this unless I'm ******"

Posted by Colin McDowell on Monday, December 7, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud
Yeah, the title applies to whenever I have to go to work... go figure.  Oh yeah, I work at this fusion cinema/restaurant place called Cinema Cafe; I wait tables, ticket take, food run, and cook... easy money for while I'm taking classes.  Well today was quite uneventful, although I am winning by 50 points in one of my NFL fantasy league's (for the employees at my work).  I'm playing against the 10-2 Funkalicious Felons and Jerry Roy (fellow cook) has Ryan Grant and Larry Fitzgerald left to pl...

"You are late... next time you are late I will be saying, 'you are fired'''

Posted by Colin McDowell on Saturday, December 5, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud
Coooooool man, always nice to hear threats from a bi-polar boss (who I once heard say that he doesn't really care about my "late to work" habits).  Seriously man, I must have punctualiphobia or something because I NEVER show up to work on time. I know, I know...one of the most important traits to hone is punctuality, it can never be a bad thing (exempting late night parties and such).  Punctualiphobia doesn't exist but I think it should be looked at as a label for those who fear being on time...

Finally found my music partner/producer...and I'm happy!

Posted by Colin McDowell on Friday, September 18, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud
So...the past 2 weeks have been very exciting for me.  Being a lyricist, it's always a struggle to find someone to assist you in making original music.  The past projects I have been working on have been remixes, I've just been grabbing beats from musicians like J Dilla, Mad Lib, Soul Position, RJD2, and Flying Lotus to make music that everybody can listen to.  So anyways, the dudes name is Joe, he is a Filipino, and makes some of the sickest beats I have ever heard.  I feel like him and I ha...

First Blog Post

Posted by Colin McDowell on Friday, August 21, 2009, In : Thinking Out Loud
Well now, I guess I have committed myself to writing a blog every now and again.  Making a website is gonna be pretty difficult, but I'm up for the challenge, I am solo, gonna be promoting my self...and I won't give up so don't think I'm disappearing any time soon.  Anyways...I am going to watch Inglorious Basterds tonight, should be a dope movie, I would love to be "Killin Nazi's".  Today was also my first day of class, Sociology and Yoga, wtf? Yeah I am one of 5 dudes in my Yoga class so I ...
