This guy! One of the most integral forerunners of modern day "hip-hop" and "rap", James Brown stylized a movement that would embrace the passion infused, free flowing expression that we all seek to release (on quite a regular basis). His attraction to the vigorous loops and melodies produced by small bands (usually consisting of brass, percussion, piano, and strings) was one that was nationally/globally admired by many enthusiasts, soul or not. I believe that Brown polished the art of soul ... Continue reading ...

Change
You have done the Hip-Hop community a great deal of justice by utilizing your well adjusted scholarship to discuss in detail the intrinsic value pertaining to Rap and Hip-Hop... I cannot reiterate the importance of your decision to take on such a (generally) frowned upon subject matter... the manner in which you conveyed several Hip-Hop truths has communicated several essential concepts relative to understanding this street art form. Thanks again, you have impacted me greatly.
Christmas has always been one of those holidays thats enjoyment and worthiness is based on how well your wish list was tended to. My wishlist was always a collection of extremely wishful desires (sometimes impossible ones), of which only about 40% became realities. (Kool DJ Herc and Coke La Rock throwin down, above) (Grandmaster Flash introducing [what was]a revolutionary new instrument, below) The epic duo of Kool DJ Herc and Coke La Rock are considered to be the fathers of hip-hop giving birth to this new genre of music and dance on the streets of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue and Cedar Park in the Bronx, NYC. From party to party, these were the guys you would call on if you wanted a good time. The development of B-Boy's and B-Girls (breakdancing cohorts) a... Continue reading ...

Thinking Out Loud
So...the past 2 weeks have been very exciting for me. Being a lyricist, it's always a struggle to find someone to assist you in making original music. The past projects I have been working on have been remixes, I've just been grabbing beats from musicians like J Dilla, Mad Lib, Soul Position, RJD2, and Flying Lotus to make music that everybody can listen to. So anyways, the dudes name is Joe, he is a Filipino, and makes some of the sickest beats I have ever heard. I feel like him and I ha... Continue reading ...
