Under: Thinking Out Loud
Recap:
Wednesday (Dec. 9th)- Had a yoga class exam in the morning which consisted of exam review being due and tests waiting to be taken. At the end of the exam she told us she had exploited her psychological side and that the real exam was coming in for the test being mentally prepared... interesting. Caught a flight right after it finished, landed in Boston at 3:30. Walked around looking for Crista and making sure I was in the right place for approximately 35 minutes. Found Crista, took the T back to Fenway, walked to her dorm, and ate dinner at the Emmanuel cafeteria. Soon after, I walked over to the Hendreas (Hendra/Andres) household to chill there while she finished her informative paper on Aung San Suu Kyi (who is a phenomenal Burmese peoples rights activist currently serving her seemingly endless imprisonment). It's always lovely seeing the boys; Dan, Andrew, Andres, and Hendra. This time CJ was there for a longer period of time so I learned to find he is a very cool dude. Smoked the heavenly trifecta of snakes, sativa, and tobacco while mellowing out to some chilled dubstep. Left at midnight, came back to the dorm extremely roasted while putting on a display of my royal highness for everyone who saw me (sorry about my beady, red eyes). I passed out almost immediately after chowing down an entire bag of coconut cookies (which I made for Crista, luckily I made 2 bags teehee).
Thursday (Dec. 10th)- Woke up fairly early, stayed in bed though :). Went to lunch at the cafeteria, then I was supposed to make revisions on Crista's paper while she was at her 1:30 class but I ended up chatting with Erin (Crista's roommate) so that didn't happen (and I was punished severely for it). Crista got back at 3 pm, and discovered that I had just started her revisions...she needed them for her presentation at 5:30 because she didn't have time to make the revisions herself while having to practice/finish the presentation. I did the revisions (late) and hung around for a bit trying to read about the strange developmental changes of the Escherichia coli gene through ribosome translocation (unknown functions of GTPases -which hydrolyze guanosine triphosphate- that are saved in bacteria), which was actually quite interesting although I do need to study up on microbiology (yikes). I soon left for Hendreas' house because she didn't want me to sit through her presentation (which she said sucked because she wasn't prepared due to me not finishing the revisions, so I suck). So I chilled at Hendreas' for a bit, came back to her dorm at around 6. Hung out for a bit and then at 8 pm we took the T to Paradise Rock Club for the 9 pm Strange Journey Tour show. We arrived at 8:45 and figured that we wouldn't be missing much of the opening acts if we went for dinner so we went to Qdoba (first time for me) and I ate a HUGE BBQ chicken burrito while she ate nachos and tacos...we were stuffed. After eating we headed over to the show. The first act was a Los Angeles based rapper named Tunji (from Inverse) whose style was a representation of the "college boy" rap although he did incorporate some cool tribal sounds (he is an activist at best). Second on the line-up were the Looptroop Rockers, hailing from Sweden with love. These guys are some ridiculous lynguists on speed (I actually asked Embee if he was on speed and he said "no man, it's just music man, just music")... they had the ability to rhyme fast or slow while implementing hyphy dance moves and catchy hooks... they remind me of Pete Philly and Perquisite just a little bit. The third opening act belonged to Chicago native (living in Brooklyn), Grieves. Grieves is 24 years old and just now hitting the scene with his buddy Budo hitting the mini-keyboard and electric guitar up. I had the chance to talk with him at the bar for a bit and he has been doing a lot of touring for a guy that was only recently signed by Rhymesayers (who have signed Brother Ali, Soul Position, Luckyiam, Murs, etc.). He seemed very down to earth and evoked so much emotion in his songs that the crowd was feeling it. The only problem was that he was too ADD for my liking and imitated Asher Roth in ways more than one. Last but not least, the Cunninlynguists showed up to conduct a talented, hyped up, cypher-like display of some of their old songs but more of their new songs from the Strange Journey Volume 2 CD which was released in November. Overall it was a good show but towards the end I was kind of unimpressed with how similar each groups style's were. Finished off the night walking back in 22 degree weather, noice.
Friday (December 11)- Woke up at 8:45 am (which is early in Crista time) so that Crista could go to her 9 am class. I hung around till 10 am contemplating on whether I should write a blog or not, turns out I was too tired? Whatever, we left at around 12 pm and hopped on the T to Hynes Convention Center to go to Bhindi Bazaar for some buffet lunch. Unfortunately, I said some bad things to Crista (because I was hungry and easily irritated) before we arrived so the lunch was quite-quiet until the end when I couldn't handle the awkward silence. I tried to dissolve the conflict but I only made it worse because I was publicly displaying my confusion. We had plans to go to Bunker Hill after lunch, but those changed very quickly and Crista wanted to go back to her dorm... it was cold as balls so I should've gone too. But no, I wanted to see Bunker Hill because I had been meaning to the past 3 times I've visited. So I let her walk away from me after giving her the option of staying with me or heading back... and I should've chased her, damnit man! I took the T to Bunker Hill Community College and made my way through the epic wind chill to the Bunker Hill National Monument which is a 221 foot oberisk with 294 steps leading to the top (which, if you choose to climb for free, gives a wonderful view of Boston and it's surrounding cities). I made the climb, which was harder than I thought it would be (and I'm still sore from it now), and spent a good 20 minutes thinking about Crista at the top, grreeeattt. I left the monument and headed to Charlestown Navy Yard where the USS Constitution, which is the oldest commissioned warship in the world, is docked for tourism. I proceeded to walk across the Charlestown Bridge to downtown Boston where I caught the T at Haymarket Station. I was heading back to Fenway seeking asylum and warmth. I stopped by Hendreas' and was referred to Dan's place so I walked over there and let the storm (Crista's fury) blow over. I then met up with her at her dorm so that we could make our way to dinner at the Melting Pot. However, Crista had planned for us to ice skate in the Boston Commons it's just that we arrived at the rink at 7:00 pm and had a 7:45 reservation. So we agreed to ice skate after dinner. We got to the Melting Pot and were welcomed to a warm, classy yet casual atmosphere... which was perfect for relationship therapy over dinner. We ordered the Nacho Fiesta and Caesar Salad as appetizers and the spicy cheese dip was made right in front of us in a steaming bowl over a steaming platform (located in the middle of the table). The dinner started off slow with questions and answers, disagreements and agreements, bouncing back and forth between the two of us across the table. Soon enough it ended up with me moving to sit next to her and tear up on her shoulder while telling her I love her while we waited for our entree. Our entree was the multi-meat platter (forgot what it was called) which consisted of sirloin steak, chicken, shrimp, salmon, and pork bits. We chose the Mushroom oriented sauce (for the pot) and had potatoes, mushroom caps, and broccoli served on the side. The side sauces were Teriyaki, Curry, and Sweet Chilli sauce and were so rich in flavor and perfect for the meat bits. We would grab a piece of meat for each of our skewers and leave it in the pot as we romantically spoke about our undying/unconditional love for one another. Oh how heartfelt. After 2 1/2 hours of therapeutic dining we made our way to a party in Alston, which was overcrowded but whatever I was pretty tipsy 25 minutes into it. We did some dancing and mingling then at about 2 am we headed back to Hendreas' apartment to find Hendra, Ben, Andres, and Andrew waiting for Mr. Collie Man. So Crista and I waited with, and when the Collie Man arrived, so did our mellow revelry... we did some serious CHILLIN with an unbelievable multi-chambered gnob (I can't remember the brand name but I WILL find out). Time passed as it eventually his 3:00 am so we made it back to the dorm so I could get packed up and we caught a taxi to the airport at 5:15 am (after waiting for one that we called twice for about 15 minutes) allowing me to just make my flight... they literally were announcing my name on the IC for a 5 minute 'till gate closing notice. I made it in due time passing through security with ease. I then tried to catch some sleep on the flights but Boston to D.C. was only an hour and some change while D.C. to Norfolk was about 30 minutes so I was given little time to shut my eyes. I arrived at about 9:30 am and waited for my cousin to pick me up at 10:20 am... got back to the house at 10:40, called my boss to see what time I had to be in work and got dressed for my Miscellaneous* shift at 11:00 am. Boy was that a wonderful morning. One of my bosses had actually told me that Saturday was going to be an extremely busy day so he NEEDED everyone to be available for work... this curtailed my trip by a day and a half because I was let off of work after only 3 hours of working when I could've been chilling in Boston still with a party lined up for Saturday night. FML right?
Sunday- I woke up at 11 after a well needed 10 hour sleep, ate some, worked on my website layouts, my Myspace page, some math review work, and chatted for 5 hours with Crista. Relaxxxxxxxxxxxin.
