Where Brooklyn At?

So this weekend was ill, add some more experiences to my never ending list of sensual encounters. I arrived in Manahttan on Friday morning at about 7 am on the Sprinter Bus (Destiny) line, which I must say is a significant upgrade from the last bus line I was taking (refer to document titled Customer Service vs. None). I got in on 34th Street (but there was no miracle) and headed over to my buddy Sam's humble abode, the 3rd floor of an NYU dormitory in Union Square... also home to Ross Bratin (my most confused Jewish friend) and 2 others. It was a quick exchange, got in, got out, and we were off to Playwrights Horizons on 42nd Street. It is an acting conservatory which demands you come from 9 am to 5 pm to have the laws of oratory/expression/movement/drama/interaction/art/dance/and identity theft instilled in your unscathed/delicate minds. Personally, I thought it was very nice of the staff there to let me sit in on the classes (hell, they even let me participate in most of them) and I definitely gained some insight on why I would want to go to acting school... I could be whoever I want to be, these educators just want to give you the tools to do so. 3 of the 4 "instructors" Sam has to see 8 hours a day 3 times a week were gay (and so were most of the students)... just wanted to add that in there too, for whatever it is worth. Soon after that we (Sam, my new friend JP from the conservatory, and I) made our way back to prepare for a night of epic proportions, a journey to Bushwick, Brooklyn. Bushwick, a grungy part of Brooklyn bordering Williamsburg, is reminiscent of the old days when hippy communes and gang territories were the highlights of precincts and towns in Brooklyn. The night was cold and the venue resembled an old warehouse on the exterior... but inside and up a flight of stairs was a loft-turned-underground nightclub. One room for stage performance (which was utilized by many bands and artists... it even had a built in seating area); another room for bar and bathrooms; hallways with couches, a rocking chair, coat check, and a kitty cat; a room with a DJ set and dance area (with DJ Shy Guy dapping the tables up); and the backyard patio for those who got to hot inside and wanted to smoke something. Anyways, $2 PBR's and a blunt topped my first night, Sam and I took our doses and left by 3. Got back to the room and slept on an air mattress instead of the bottom end of Sam's bed, woke up, pondered having breakfast, and then Crista show's up and I'm like WTF? The thought of her coming down to Manhattan to surprise me did cross my mind, but did I actually think she would do it on such short notice? No... so congrats baby, you made my weekend. Crista and I set out for kebabs, and after 20 minutes of searching + I-Phone mapping, we found a place. After eating we made our way back to meet up with Sam and Maritz (another good friend from Singapore) frequently stopping at pharmacies, malls, shops, and restaurants to check for handicap bathrooms ;). Didn't end up finding one, but met up with the guys and set out for Bushwick Day 2 (the party was a 48 hour thing). Showed up early, just in time for a heated cypher session, which I was quick to join in on. It soon turned into an ad-hoc band gig with: 6 freestylers (whoever had the mic), one girl singing (sounds like woahhhhh, wohhhh, wooooooooeee, yeeeeaahhhh), Grey Matter beatboxing (a member of Beatboxer Entertainment, based in New York, check him out here), a girl on guitar, a guy on bass, and another guy playing trumpet. The cypher lasted about an hour, it was plenty fun, lots of people coming in and out of the room. The rest of the night was interesting, great musical displays, and we left at about 1 am this night (wasn't as popping as the night before + we lost Sam and his phone was dead... he ended up walking 40 blocks to his dorm in Manhattan, smart guy).
Sunday came a lot sooner than expected, Crista and I had an inconsistent sleep but woke up at 11:30 so that we could all have lunch together before Crista and I left the city at 5pm on our cheap yet efficient buses. I am glad I had that experience and I am excited for the next party thrown... I'll have more of a gig the next time I go up as well. Been working on all sorts of crazy styles to fuck with and incorporate into my music. I guess I've been preoccupied trying to get somewhere musically while maintaining a job and going to classes, I will remain committed to this blog though because after all, I will want to look back on my life at one point in time and have it almost chronologically mapped out from 19 years old onwards. Hope all is well folks, good night.
